I’ve done a few other minor things but right now I’m waiting for Linn Richardson to replace the existing 4-speed transmission with a 5 speed. There’s plenty involved with this, though. While the tranny is out, I’ve asked Linn to rebuild the differential and put in 4 spider gears, and rebuild the clutch and use a lightweight flywheel. The 5-speed tranny only fits the later Corvair rear suspension so the rear end is also being upgraded. Because of this the brakes need to be replaced. The existing brakes are all drum so I’m taking this opportunity to upgrade to disks all way round. Unfortunately this means losing the original wheels. However, they are only 13 inch rims so I’m going to use a more common 15 inch.

Once this is all over, I’m considering relocating the oil-cooler to the front trunk. I want to also install an inter-cooler in the front trunk. This is in order to redistribute the weight from the rear. Another reason is that I want to put in a front spoiler with air intakes to cool the coolers. I don’t think the oil-cooler in the rear is getting enough airflow.
